The Most Wholesome Japanese Official - Hisao Inagaki
In August 2020, Hisao Inagaki began his journey as the Consul General of Japan in Seattle. On the day of his arrival, he started the habit, or rather routine, of folding one paper crane every day.
In his own words, he folds these cranes “while praying for everyone’s health and peace.” Every 100 cranes, Inagaki-san appears in suit, often showcasing the full collection of cranes he has folded so far. To date, he has folded over 1,500 cranes.
According to Japanese legend, folding exactly 1,000 cranes within one year grants a person a lifetime of happiness, good luck, or one wish. However, Inagaki-san is not in a rush; he isn’t doing this for himself but for the well-being of those around him. He truly is an inherently wholesome human being.
Today, Inagaki-san serves as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Tonga, continuing his tradition of folding one crane every day.
