Louis Vuitton is set to reignite its iconic partnership with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, launching a commemorative collection on January 1, 2025, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 2003 collaboration. This reunion promises a fresh take on the original designs that blend Murakami’s colourful artistry with Louis Vuitton’s elegance.

A Look Back - The 2003 Collaboration

For those who weren’t there, let’s rewind: under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton’s 2003 collaboration with Murakami introduced the Monogram Multicolor line, featuring the classic LV monogram in a spectrum of 33 colors against black or white backgrounds. The Monogram Multicolor bags were instantly legendary, a favorite of Y2K royalty like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and every It Girl with a flip phone. Fast-forward two decades, and these pieces still fetch top dollar at auctions, revered as both cultural artifacts and wearable art.

The 2025 Collection - What’s New

The upcoming collection will revisit beloved motifs such as the Monogram Multicolor, Cherry Blossom, Panda, and Cherry designs. However, instead of replicas, these themes will be reimagined across a range of products, including handbags, small leather goods, footwear, and collector’s items like skateboards and trunks. Each piece will feature a leather tag or stamp to mark the 20th anniversary, differentiating them from the original releases.

Release Schedule and Pricing

The collection will roll out on January 1st, as announced on the Louis Vuitton website.

There’s yet little known about the exact pieces included in this new release. Based on leaked pictures, the collection draws inspiration from the 2003 release. We could expect items like the Pochette Accessoires, Nano Speedy, Speedy 25, Keepall 45, and Dog Carrier, alongside accessories such as a pen case and even an LV Murakami puzzle.
